Marian M. Stuckey, 97, Oblong, Illinois passed away at 9:43 P.M. Sunday, October 9, 2011, at the Hospice Care Unit, Arlington Memorial Hospital, Arlington, Texas. Born near Omaha, Gallington County, Illinois on April 27, 1914, she was the daughter of Alvie Quick and LuLu Roberts Quick. She was a graduate of Bridgeport Township High School and she attended Eastern Illinois Teacher’s College, Charleston, Illinois. She was a teacher for 32 years starting out in one room schools – Liberty School and Smokey Row School; then with consolidation going to Oblong Grade School, retiring in 1975. She was a member of the Central United Methodist Church, Oblong where she served as church secretary for 27 years from 1972 – 1999. She also taught Sunday School and was one of the first women to serve on the Church Trustee’s Committee. Marian was also a member of the United Methodist Village Auxiliary, Illinois Retired Teacher’s Association, Oblong Business & Professional Women’s Club. She helped with the Oblong Food Pantry at the Church; Tuesday Afternoon Card Club at the Oblong Community Center. Her hobbies included doing volunteer work, sewing, reading, working crossword puzzles and visiting with family. Marian lived a long, healthy and active life; she will be remembered for her courageous spirit and her determination to remain independent and self sufficient.
On May 22, 1937, Marian married Darrell M. Stuckey, who preceded her in death on December 13, 1988. She is also preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Claude, Aurel, Theodore, Kenneth, Carl & Harold Quick; and two sisters, Wanda Lea Wilson and Thelma H. Stevens.
Marian is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Elaine & Joe Housley; two sisters-in-law, Betty Quick and Maxine Quick; several nieces & nephews; grand nieces & nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Rev. Tom Brewer and Rondel Lee Boyd will officiate the funeral service. Burial will be in the Oblong Cemetery, Oblong, Illinois.
